A Message regarding making Cypress Mountain a “Smoke Free Environment”

Cypress Mountain is planning to become a Smoke Free Resort for the start of the 2016/17 Winter Season.  This would mean that “smoking” of any kind would be prohibited within our Resort Boundaries.

Smoking is already prohibited at Cypress Mountain in lift lines, on Chairlifts, within or near building entrances and intakes, and in the Downhill and Nordic Base Areas excepting the small shelter provided behind the Cypress Creek Lodge.

The new Smoke Free Policy would be extended beyond our existing prohibition to include all ski runs and trails; Parking Lots 1A, 1, 2, and 3A in the Downhill Area; the Nordic Parking Lot; and any hiking trails located within the Ski Area boundaries.  This new Policy would also result in the removal of the designated smoking shelter at the upper corner of Lot 1A.

Cypress Mountain - Media Release 2016-01-30

Missing Snowboarder Fatality, Out of Bounds on Mount Strachan

Cypress Mountain, West Vancouver – On the afternoon of January 29, 2016, a 40 year old male from the Lower Mainland was reported missing by a snowboarding companion to Cypress Base Station at approximately 3:30 PM.  The report identified the location where the two persons had crossed a double rope line boundary marking on Upper Mount Strachan earlier in the day, and where the companion had turned back to return to the Ski Area.

A boundary search was subsequently conducted by Cypress Ski Patrol, and the location of a snowboard track exiting down a steep slope beyond the boundary was confirmed.  The West Vancouver Police Department was contacted and a search was initiated last night by North Shore Search and Rescue in the area of Montizambert Creek above the Sea to Sky Highway.
