Youth W.E.S.T (Work Experience Skills & Training):
Established in the fall of 1992, the Youth W.E.S.T program has been giving lower mainland high school students the opportunity to gain experience, skills and training in preparation for customer service/tourism employment opportunities.
Each student volunteers 100 hours during the course of the season, and program participants are integrated into the employment pool and gain knowledge and experience in multiple departments with additional workshops such as Worldhost, FoodSafe and assistance in gaining level one ski or snowboard certification through CASI/CSIA.
Facilitated under the Youth W.E.S.T program is the Junior Patrol program. Geared towards competent skiers and snowboarders, it provides hands on experience for students interested in pursuing employment within the Alpine Patrol/Safety sector of Ski Area Operations.
With a high success rate, many of the participants go on to pursue employment with Cypress or other tourism based employers, and the hours gained can be used as credit for work experience programs towards their graduation requirements.
Each September, information packages are sent to career counselors and the program runs from December through April. For more information, please contact Claire Halley at challey@cypressmountain.com
