Skate clinics

This course is designed for beginners and new intermediates. Students will be placed into small groups based on their experience and demonstrated ability.

  • Level 1

These sessions are intended for those who are new to the sport or have limited (less than one season of snow) skate-ski experience. The fundamentals of skate skiing will be introduced to provide a solid foundation for the skier to develop their skills. Skills taught will include balance, coordination, propulsion, and direction change.

    What you'll learn

    • Free skate, one-skate, diagonal skate, and offset skate
    • Wedge turns for control on descents
    • Advanced techniques: two-skate and high-speed step turns (based on group level and time)
  • Level 2

These sessions are designed for skate skiers who have been skating for a couple of seasons. While level 1 is not a prerequisite, participants should be comfortable with the fundamentals introduced there. If you're an experienced classic or downhill skier with no skate skiing experience, we recommend starting with Level 1 to ensure a smooth transition.

    What you'll learn

Build on the foundations from Level 1 as you refine your technique and learn to ski efficiently for the terrain. Learn to ski strategically for smooth, consistent flow. New skills introduced include:

    • Two-skate and offset skate with lead changes and transitions
    • High-speed step turns
  • Cancellation policy: All lessons, once purchased, are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Lessons are forfeited for absent participants. If Cypress Mountain cancels your lesson, you will be rescheduled to another lesson within the same or future seasons.
