What Level Am I?Freestyle Ski Levels

LEVEL 1

FREESTYLE BEGINNER 

Students already know how to: 

  • Maintain a parallel stance at all times on Blue terrain  
  • Ski down all Blue terrain with confidence 
  • Manage speed on steeper (Black) terrain 
  • Manage direction on moguls or gladed terrain 
  • Adjust speed and turn shape for snow conditions 
  • Ski a variety of turn shapes and speeds on flats and up hills with skis 

Students will learn how to: 

  • Make a risk assessment of natural features 
  • Learn Terrain Park etiquette 
  • Perform basic freestyle techniques on Green or Blue terrain 
  • Identify a variety of natural and controlled features 
  • Improve skiing technique to manage varied terrain and snow conditions 

    Please note: These levels are approximate and may be adjusted by your instructor at the beginning of your lesson. 

     

    lEVEL 2

    FREESTYLE EXPERIENCED 

    Students already know how to: 

    • Maintain a parallel stance at all times on Black terrain 
    • Ski down most Black terrain with confidence 
    • Manage speed on the steepest Black or Double Black terrain 
    • Demonstrate creative application of skiing technique in moguls or on gladed terrain 
    • Adjust skiing technique to appropriately adapt to varying snow conditions
    • Make a risk assessment of natural and controlled features 

        • Confidently “straight air” on some natural and small controlled features 
        • Slide the length of a small box facing forward
           

        Students will learn how to: 

        • Continue to apply etiquette and risk assessment practices 
        • Develop Freestyle technique to spins and/or grab on controlled features 
        • Improve ski technique to increase speed and/or versatility on a variety of terrain and snow conditions
