Latest News At Cypress Mountain
We’ve all heard about the big El Nino forecasted to roll in this winter but we’re happy to see that the Farmer’s Almanac is looking ahead at a snowy winter for British Columbia!
We’re happy to report that the last big El Nino the Super El Nino of 1997/98 left Cypress Mountain with a 5 month season, about 90% of the normal snowfall, and an excellent snowmaking window from mid-December right through to mid-January. You’ll perhaps recall that Cypress Mountain did not have snowmaking in 1997 so if a similar weather patterns shapes up again we expect to make a ton of snow and have an average snowpack on the mountains. In support of this expectation we’re very excited to announce another half million dollar extension to our snowmaking system going up another 500 feet of vertical on Collins and adding 5 more high production Super Polecat Snowguns to our fleet!
We certainly trust that the warm trend has moved on (it was 5C at the top of Sky on the last day of August) and we’re looking ahead to some early snow to get things rolling.
